Interview: SIMON ROWLANDS Simon Rowlands is a sectional timing expert whose work can be seen on Sky Sports Racing, Timeform and in the Irish Field. Rowlands, who worked for years to make accurate sectional timings and course distances a priority in racing, previously worked full time at Timeform – setting up the very popular Betfair/Timeform Radio – was the Racing Editor at The Sportsman and chaired the Horseracing Betting Forum and a Handicapping Appeals Panel. A fan of handicapping from an early age, he worked in shop for William Hill, managing one of London’s busiest shops at the age of 21. One of the most well-known tipsters in the country, his columns have been must read material for years. Palmer’s weekly diaries were so popular that Michael Owen, Dietmar Hamann, and Paul Merson gave endorsements to his 2011 book ‘Born To Punt’. In the same year he landed the biggest winner in the Racing Post’s history when 200/1 shot Thomas Bjorn won at the Qatar Masters.
